Warren Lippitt land records, 1818-1837.

The collection consists of three partially printed documents pertaining to land transactions involving Warren Lippitt of Chatham County. They include an indenture, dated 20 May 1818, between John Lillibridge of Savannah and Warren Lippett for one lot in the City of Savannah in the New Leeds section; a survey of land in Cherokee County, tract 715, for Warren Lippitt, signed by John Brewster, surveyor general, and dated 26 June 1832; and a grant dated 5 September 1837 and signed by Governor William Schley for the abovementioned tract in Cherokee County to Warren Lippitt.

William Schley (1786-1858) was born in Frederick County, Maryland on December 15, 1786. In childhood he moved with his parents to Georgia and attended academies in Louisville and Augusta. He was admitted to the bar in Augusta in 1812, served as a judge, as a member of the Georgia Assembly, and as a representative from Georgia in Congress 1833-1835. "Warren Lippitt (1786-1850) became a mariner at the age of sixteen, and was made captain at the age of 22. He sailed until 1816, then went into a business partnership in Savannah, Georgia, dealing in groceries and cotton. He alternated his residences seasonally between Providence and Savannah.
